Heating Instructions for Tamales 


Steamer (Preferred Method)

Take tamales out of plastic bag. Put water in steamer. Place tamales in steamer. Make sure the opening is facing up away from water. Place lid and steam for 20 to 25 minutes for ½ dozen tamales or 30 to 45 minutes for more than 1 dozen tamales.

If tamales are wrapped in aluminum foil, just place them in steamer and steam for 20 to 25 minutes.

Microwave (single tamal)

Take tamale out of plastic bag or aluminum foil. Wrap around a wet paper towel. Place in microwave for 1 minute. (1 minute per tamale)

Microwave (½ dozen tamales)

Take tamales out of plastic bag or aluminum foil. Place them in a glass container. Add a tablespoon of water. Place lid and microwave for 1 minute for each tamale. 1/2 dozen = 6 to 7 minutes.



* Freeze tamales as soon as you get them if you are not going to eat them within three to four days after purchase.

* When you warm up frozen tamales. Place tamales in refrigerator overnight. Steam them for 30 minutes (½ dozen) or 1 hour (more than a dozen).

* Do not warm up tamales in the oven. Oven will dry them out.

* Do not boil or submerge in water.
